Galaxy Theatres officially breaks ground on northern Nevada’s first and only IMAX experience on June 18 at the Outlets at Legends.
The new state-of-the-art theatre complex will feature all digital sound and projection in its 12 auditoriums along with 3D capabilities and a giant screen IMAX auditorium. The expansive, curved IMAX theatre screen will span from ceiling to floor and wall-to-wall, and be more reflective and brighter than traditional theatre screens to provide a true image from wherever moviegoers sit.
An audible difference will be heard as well, with IMAX’s six laser-aligned loudspeakers that distribute equal volume throughout the auditorium, and are more powerful with a wider frequency range than typical speakers.
President of Galaxy Theatres, Rafe Cohen, remarks, “We’ve had our eye on the northern Nevada market for years, and are thrilled to be making the region’s first IMAX theatre a reality at the Outlets at Legends. We feel it will become an integral part of the community, providing a state-of-the-art entertainment option, plus a venue for everything from school and corporate functions to special events.”
The construction of the theatre kicks off the next phase of development for the Outlets at Legends. In recent months, the property has added more than 45,000 square feet of restaurant and retail space, including TJ Maxx, Old Navy Outlet, and coming this fall, a new Buffalo Wild Wings.
Outlets at Legends General Manager Dennis McGovern states, “Our vision for Legends has been to create a 365-day destination that combines visitor attractions with appealing everyday retail and dining. We’re so pleased to be partnering with Galaxy Theatres to bring a new, top-notch movie going experience to Sparks.”
Sparks Mayor Geno Martini exudes, “Sparks is one of Nevada’s most vibrant, family-oriented cities. The Galaxy IMAX Theater will continue to support the city’s branding efforts as a place where there is always something happening, fun to do and see in northern Nevada!”
IMAX Corporation is a global entertainment technology leader specializing in immersive motion picture technologies. IMAX comes from the term “maximum image,” and was developed by a small group of Canadian experimental filmmakers who formed the IMAX Corporation in 1968.
Located at 1310 Scheels Drive in Sparks near the Outlets at Legends Tower on the west side of the property, the theatre is scheduled for completion in 2014. Throughout the construction, the new theatre will employ approximately 400 people, and another 50 upon opening.
The 62,000-square-foot theatre will open in 2014. For more information, visit www.OutletsatLegends.com or call 775-358-3300.
