2012 Expedition Man Endurance Festival

The inaugural Expedition Man Endurance Festival, August 25, is an ultra-long relay and Aqua Bike triathlon, simultaneously. The USA Triathlon-sanctioned event will traverse 140.6 miles through the communities of Lake Tahoe, Carson City, Washoe Valley, Reno and Sparks, and highlight the breathtaking and iconic Northern Nevada scenery.

Race Details
Each leg offers the Ultra Distance or an optional Long distance. Race begins at 6:00am at Zephyr Cover Resort.

1The unique course starts swimmers at Zephyr Cove Resort in the beautiful southern part of South Lake Tahoe, NV (2.4 miles or 1.2 miles). The 112 mile bike ride will utilize a variety of Northern Nevada’s scenery including a 1,400 ft elevation drop into Carson City (56 mile option). The bike portion of the route includes a three mile climb to Spooner Lake (7,100ft elevation), followed by a thrilling downhill ride that includes a 1,400ft elevation drop into Carson. The course then goes through the pristine calmness of Washoe Valley and continues into Reno, ending at the Legends at Sparks Marina. The day ends with a long run along the Truckee River Trail finishing at the Legends at Sparks Marina (26.2 miles or 13.1 miles).


Festival Area (Located at Scheels)
DJ Ryon, 93.7 BOB-FM and some of your favorite local bands will keep the music flowing at this year’s Festival located at the Legends at Sparks Marina in front of Scheels.The Festival will have a vendor area with plenty of food and drinks and a great viewing area for spectators looking for their favorite athlete coming in and out of the bike-run transition areas or crossing the finish line. Come out and enjoy this great event!

Elite athletes take to the water at Donner Lake

donnerlakeswimThe 28th Annual Donner Lake Open Water Swim is set for Saturday, Aug. 8. Over 350 swimmers will participate in the 2.7-mile trek across the cool lake.

The race begins at the Donner State Memorial Park and finishes at West End Beach. The Sierra Nevada Masters hosts the event.

The Donner Lake Swim has become one of the top U.S. Masters open-water races in the West Coast. Top athletes from all over California and Nevada participate in the annual event.

Three-time defending champion, Erik Scalise, will try to extend his winning streak against a competitive field. Scalise, a former NCAA All-American and Olympic Trial qualifier, is a Sparks native.
