2014 St. Patrick’s Day in Reno Tahoe

For some, it is a day to commemorate a man named Patrick who chased some snakes out of Ireland. For the rest of us, it is an excuse to party, and pay homage to the Irish and their many traditions. There are many locations in Reno Tahoe that will provide entertainment, Irish music, and of course, great Saint Patty’s libations. Reno Leprechaun CrawlThe crawl is back again folks! Saturday, March 15, the leprechauns (and wannabe leprechauns) will be out and about. Only instead of pots of gold, these guys will have cups of liquid courage! Dress in green or risk getting yourself pinched by a lot of fellow crawlers. The crawl starts at 7:30PM.

In March, the Rocky Mountain Oyster Fry & St. Patrick’s Day Parade features marching leprechauns, green attractions, and a Rocky Mountain Oyster Fry (yep—they are either beef or sheep testicles, or some of both.)
This is a fun filled day of unique eating as professional and amateur cooks compete for the most creative and unique dishes utilizing these unique delicacies.  More than 20 cooks compete in one of Northern Nevada’s most popular tasting contests serving up tasty testes all day, hoping for fame and glory as one of the best Rocky Mountain Oyster cooks in the West.
it’s a full-on Irish Testicle Festival with a Beer Garden, live Irish music, individual and team ball-eating contests and topped off with the Leprechaun Bar Crawl.   At 12:00noon, catch the Virginia City St. Patrick’s Day Parade on C Street, featuring the Minden Irish Dancers, our Giant Leprachaun’s of Fresno and more.

The day after you’ve stuffed yourself with delicious rocky mountain oysters, work off those calories at the Leprechaun Race through Wells Avenue and the Midtown District! There will be a very athletic leprechaun in the race. He will give participants a head start, but be warned. This little green guy will be tough to beat! A special prize will be given to whoever can place ahead of him.

Montbleu Lake Tahoe- St. Patrick’s Day Party with Young Dubliners

Monday, March 17, Starting at Noon

If you happen to be in the Tahoe area, you won’t want to miss the St. Patrick’s day party at the Montbleu. With $3 Guinness and $3 Jameson at the HQ and The Zone lounges, those with the blood of the Irish would approve of partying here.

Celtic rock band Young Dubliners will be performing at 10:00PM. Tickets are $30, with $1 drinks at the Blu nightclub!

Shea’s Tavern- They haven’t posted any events yet, but since this Irish pub is ALWAYS open, you can be sure they will be raging this St. Paddy’s day. Check out their Facebook for event updates.

O’Skis Pub & Grille- If you happen to be at the Victorian Square in Sparks, O’Skis will be worth checking out. Enjoy some authentic Irish food and beverages in this building constructed in 1908.

Leprechaun Chase

March 17 – Terry Lee Wells Discovery Museum

8:30 a.m.

Lace up your running shoes, throw on your green apparel and join Reno’s newest 5k run and walk – the Leprechaun Chase (Yes, there will be a speedy leprechaun in the race). The leprechaun will start after everyone else has begun, giving everyone a generous head start. Make your way through streets of Midtown and the Wells Avenue District as fast as possible, because those who beat the little green guy across the finish line will receive a prize.

Don’t despair if the leprechaun beats you to the finish. For every runner and walker who the leprechaun passes, the leprechaun’s pot of gold will grow in size and benefit the Terry Lee Wells Nevada Discovery Museum.

Rocky Mountain Oyster Festival & St. Patrick’s Day Parade

Professional and amateur cooks will gather in Virginia City to compete for the most creative and appealing way to prepare the delightful delicacies known as beef “fries” (yep – those are beef and sheep testicles). Prizes include $500 for the best tasting recipe, as well as $250 for the most creative dish, best presentation and best booth. The fun continues with marching leprechauns and dazzling floats during the St. Patrick’s Day Parade kicking off at noon!

Celtic Heritage Exhibit & Celebrations

February 18 – April 30, Sparks Heritage Museum

The Celtic Heritage Exhibit is a unique compilation of over 30 different people’s private collections and features artifacts dating back as far as 30-40 AD. For the next three months visitors will have the opportunity to learn about Celtic traditions and customs, not only in the Museum but through dance and music performances in the Cultural Center, including:

  • March 4, 1-4 pm – The Blachette Irish Dancers, Celtic Session Musicians and others will perform at a reception for The Sons & Daughters of Erin and honor the “Irish Person of the Year”
