4296013208_fdcbe65beb_o

The holidays are here, and our area has tons of winter activities for you to participate in to keep you and your family happy and full of holiday cheer. This season is always a busy one, so to make things easy we’ve made a list of events going on around town and put a few of them here for you. All you have to do is have fun!

The Reno Ice Rink is always a favorite for this month. This year it will be hosted at the Reno Aces ballpark and will be open all the way through February. It’s definitely cold out on the ice, but skating is always fun regardless of your skill level. People and children of all ages head to the rink for some holiday fun, so be sure to join them! For more information visit our blog post dedicated to the Ice Rink.

The Eldorado is ringing in the holiday season with “Christmas Wonderland”, one of London’s biggest Christmas shows. The Eldorado is calling it “a holiday extravaganza of pure Christmas magic”. The show will be filled with dancing and singing of traditional Christmas carols, such as “Winter Wonderland” and “O Holy Night”, and the audience is encouraged to sing along. There will be beautiful costumes, a gorgeous set, a skilled and entertaining cast, and “the highest kicking chorus girls this side of the North Pole.” Performances will take place Tuesday through Sunday until December 27. Tickets are on sale now.

For some grown-up fun, the Santa Crawl will be taking place on Saturday, December 13. T’is the season to dress up in your best Santa costume and crawl to over 50 local bars with your friends! This crawl is expected to draw in a whopping 15,000 festive crawlers who will take over the streets of Reno for a night. Santa, reindeer, elves, and Ms. Claus will all come together for one giant holiday party! Be sure to buy your official Santa Crawl cup at participating retailers around town and get ready to have some fun!

Reno’s Wine Walk is holiday themed this month and is encouraging walkers to dress in their ugliest Christmas sweaters for the event. Head down to the Riverwalk District on Saturday, December 20 and enjoy wine from nearly 30 local businesses in the downtown area. For $20 you will get a wine glass and access to some delicious wines and a great time, and on the 20th a portion of the proceeds will benefit Cancer Awareness of Nevada.

For some holiday fun up in Tahoe, visit the Resort at Squaw Creek for A Star Spangled Christmas where the Truckee Tahoe Community Chrous will be singing for all to hear. They will be commemorating the bicentennial of our national anthem by performing the Star Spangled Banner, a Star Medley and Star Carol. The Chorus will also perform Schubert’s Mass in G, Gaudete!, a Jolly Jingle Christmas Medley and a sing along to get in the holiday spirit. They will be performing December 13 at 7:00 pm and December 14 at 2:00 pm. Get your tickets now!

December 20 through January 3 Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows will be hosting Holiday Celebrations up on the slopes! Santa will be skiing along with Olympic Gold Medalist Jonny Moseley throughout the month, so keep an eye out for them! In the Village carolers will be singing your favorite holiday songs, so cozy up to the fire and listen while you sip on some hot chocolate. Sqauw’s Olympic Ice Pavilion and SnoVentures Activity Zone are also great spots for some family holiday fun. There will also be a kids scavenger hunt during the month-long celebration to go along with the other holiday festivities. Head up to the mountain to be a part of this winter celebration!

The Santa Crawl Is Back!

One of Reno’s most popular bar crawls is back in season. This annual local fundraiser (with proceeds going to local schools) will take place on Saturday, December 13 and is a great way to kick off the holiday season! For their 14th year the Santa Crawl is expecting 15,000 crawlers to dress up in their holiday gear, so more bars have been added to the crawl list and their pre and post crawl activities will make for an entire weekend of Santa fun! Be sure to buy your cups at participating locations around town, and book a room at the Silver Legacy using their Santa Crawl discount code to keep you and your friends safe all weekend long. Participating locations for cup purchasing include: Chocolate Walrus, Prism Magic, Junkie, and Adam and Even in Carson City, so be sure to pick your cups up early because official Santa Crawl cups means official Santa Crawl drink deals! To stay safe and spirited, visit the Santa Crawl’s page of Rules and make sure to follow all of these festive guidelines in order to have a smooth crawl.

There are PLENTY of local bars participating in this year’s crawl, and the goal is to hit all of them before the night ends! A few of these include: Rum Bullions and Drinx at the Silver Legacy, 5 Star Saloon, 1864 Tavern, Club Cal Neva, Chocolate Bar, Freight House District, Sapphire Lounge at Harrah’s, The Loving Cup, Louis Basque Corner, Our Bar, Sierra Tap House, Tonic Lounge,  St. James Infirmary, and many, many more! The trick to this crawl is to plan ahead. Grab a map (available at the Silver Legacy and wherever you can purchase a cup), gather your friends, throw on your warmest Santa gear, and be ready to have some fun!

For those who are in town for more than just Saturday night, Reno Pub Crawl has organized some pre-crawl activities going on around town that will definitely keep you entertained! On Friday night two-time Emmy winner, NY Times bestseller, and GRAMMY winner Kathy Griffin will be performing at the Silver Legacy at 8pm. This funny woman will be in town making guests laugh all night long! You can buy tickets here. On Saturday morning there will be a holiday themed 5k run/walk at Wingfeild Park near downtown Reno beginning at 10am. This Great Santa Dash has partnered up with the Santa Crawl, so all adults entered will receive a Santa Crawl Cup. This 5k will support the AIY Foundation to help local schools, just like the Santa Crawl. To register for the run, visit the Great Santa Dash webpage. And finally, for those of you who don’t think a 5k and a 50+ stop bar crawl is enough, the Santa Crawl has teamed up with Mt. Rose for some Santa Skiing on Saturday, December 13. If you dress festively you will get a discount on an all day lift ticket (with a portion going to Support the Claus)! There will also be Santa Crawl drink specials in the lodge and a mass Santa photo taken at the top of the Kit Carson Bowl at 11 am.

Above all things, remember to be safe. Don’t ever drink and drive, don’t let yourself or your friends go anywhere alone, and be sure to drink lots of water before and during the crawl. The Santa Crawl is about holiday cheer and festive fun, so keep things nice and not naughty throughout the night! Have fun, crawlers!

Santa is Coming to Town… by the Thousands

Just as the chaos of the holiday season mounts to its apex, the Reno downtown bar district will get its annual visit from over 4,000-5,000 pub-crawling Santas, and various other holiday spirited costumes, ready to spread holiday cheer for charity.

3107273018_8cf6fb8b74_bThe evening begins precisely at 7:30pm…ish at several locations, where red-suit clad men and women meet to pick up their maps and joyfully wassail through the downtown district, stopping at over 30 selected locations, bringing the joy of giving to revelers along the way.

The charity event, free to participants, is expected to bring in about $5,000 to donorschoose.org. The participating venues along the route are asked to donate to the “Claus,” and as a reward for their generosity, they receive a visit from the crawlers.

The evening pauses for a moment to sing Christmas carols under the Reno Arch at midnight, and then the decking of the halls continues until dawn’s early light.

Santas are going to need a little more than milk and cookies to get through this night… From Naughty Elfs to Sleigh Shots, there are drink specials for all to have a good night.

The fastest way to get on Santa’s naughty list is by drinking and driving. The Silver Legacy is offering an early holiday present giving deluxe rooms Friday and Saturday for $62 a night, and $50 Sunday night. Plus, 10% of each hotel purchase to the Claus! Group Code is Santa11.

Before you hit the bars, hit the slopes only 30min away at Mt. Rose Ski Tahoe for the Santa Ski Crawl December 10!

Wondering where you can get a 2011 Commemorative Cup? We made list, and checked it twice…

Use the Silver Legacy iPhone App for Santa Crawl Map

Reno Santa CrawlHave no fear, Silver Legacy Resort Casino will help guide you to all the bars, pubs and clubs on the Santa Crawl list this year!  The new Silver Legacy iPhone App now features a map of all the stops along the 2010 crawl route to help save paper and avoid getting lost.

Silver Legacy hopes people will ditch their paper maps and use this helpful iPhone App, which is free to download from the App store.  Launched today, Santa Crawlers have time to check the route and plan stops before they go out and about this Saturday night at 7:30 p.m.

The Santa Crawl is an annual charity event that that attracts thousands of people dressed as Santa, Mrs. Clause, elves, reindeer and more.  Crawlers make their way around downtown Reno in groups, stopping at participating establishments—as noted on the map—to drink and be merry.  An estimated $5,000 in proceeds will be given to DonorsChoose.org, an online charity supporting children’s classroom initiatives around the country.  The climax of the evening takes place at midnight as Crawlers gather under the Reno Arch to sing Christmas carols.

Launched in early October, Silver Legacy’s iPhone App gives users all the 2010 Santa Crawl information in the palm of their hand and also includes all the features Silver Legacy’s website provides.  Not only can the iPhone App use GPS to calculate your location, it can also give you the specials at the closest on-property bar.  $2 Bud Light and $3 Kamikazes will be available to Crawlers at participating Silver Legacy bars all night long.

Silver Legacy’s iPhone App also gives users the ability to instantly make dinner reservations, buy concert tickets and take virtual tours of their rooms before making reservations.  It also directly links to social media outlets like Facebook, Twitter and YouTube.  Impressive GPS features also make the Silver Legacy iPhone App handy for those using their mobile devices on property by sending specials directly to the phone.

For more information on the Santa Crawl and Silver Legacy’s iPhone App, visit www.silverlegacy.com or the Apple Store or call 775-329-4777.

Snowy conditions in Reno Tahoe won’t stop the Santa Crawlers

Flights have been grounded, cars are stalling, power-lines are down and Reno Tahoe is all but buried under record low temperatures and snow, but all that won’t make a difference to this year’s Reno Santa Crawl which is expected to draw nearly 5,000 Santa-clad visitors this year for the weekend-long events.

In fact, the blizzard makes for an improved event and another surge in attendance if the pass remains open, says Matty Goedert, event founder and San Francisco based tax-attorney-by-day. “In our eight-year history we’ve lived through two huge snow storms, and the crawlers love it. This is the first year we’re doing Santa Skiing so if conditions continue, it will be the best fresh powder to kick off the season.”

Dubbed “Reindeer Games,” the weekend of Dec. 11-13 kicks off Friday night with a Santa Crawl Pajama Ball at Reno’s National Bowling Stadium. Then, all day Saturday, discounted Santa Skiing at Mt. Rose ski resort for those dressed as Santa.

The games come to head on Saturday night when more than 45 bars, pubs and casinos within a half-mile radius in downtown Reno host a flurry of Red, White and Beards for the eighth annual Reno Santa Crawl into the wee hours of the morning.

Beginning with only a handful of participants, the crawl has steadily grown each year. At the onset of the recession in 2008, organizers experienced a significant and unexpected surge when attendance doubled from 1,500 to 3,000 participants. This year, they are expecting close to 5,000.

In true holiday spirit, proceeds from the event go to the Hashimoto Widows and Orphans Fund for the families of fallen law officers of the Reno-Sparks area.

Photos: Santa Pub Crawl takes over downtown Reno

Reno is still in recovery mode after a night of partying Saturday as hundreds of Santas converged on downtown during the Seventh Annual Reno Santa Pub Crawl.

More than two-dozen local nightlife hot spots participated with drink specials and music, while locals and visitors mingled in their Santa suits.

The night culminated with a gathering of the Santas under the iconic Reno Arch and shortly after the real Santa was on his way home to continue getting ready for Christmas Eve. Don’t worry, though, we got a picture of him. He’s the one in the red hat.

Santa Crawl to hit downtown Reno

Santa Claus is coming to town. Actually, hundreds of Santa Clauses are coming to downtown Reno, as we celebrate the Seventh Annual Reno Santa Pub Crawl this weekend (Dec. 13) at dozens of downtown Reno watering holes.

The crawl begins at three downtown Reno bars including: Amendment 21 (425 South Virginia St.), Imperial Bar and Lounge (306 E. 4th St.) and the Underground (555 East 4th St.).  More than 27 pubs, bars and watering holes are taking part in the crawl. Santas will convene under the Reno Arch with the backdrop of a vibrant casino and gaming district at midnight to ring in the Christmas season and sing Christmas carols. An after party will take place at 210 North located at 210 N. Sierra St.

The crawl is open to any aspiring Saint Nick, elf or anyone with Christmas spirit, and proceeds from the event will go to the Hashimoto Widows and Orphans Fund, benefiting the families of fallen law-enforcement officers from agencies in the Reno-Sparks area. A check for $5,000 will be presented the night of the event.

So break out your Santa, Mrs. Claus or even elf outfit and join one of the largest gatherings of Kris Kringles in the West. The fun starts at 7:30 p.m.
