Reno Tahoe Welcomes the Year of the Snake

The Chinese New Year is upon us, marking the time when we transition from the Year of the Dragon to the Year of the Snake. While the Dragon brought us a year of excitement, unpredictability, exhilaration and intensity, the Snake is believed to bring prosperity, gracious morality and great wisdom. To usher in the New Year, beginning February 10, Reno Tahoe USA is celebrating with a week of dining specials, dances and concerts!

Eldorado Hotel Casino

Ring in the Year of the Snake at the Eldorado with dozens of specialty dishes and magnificent White Crane Lion Dances. From February 10-17, enjoy the variety of changing options at The Buffet, including Chinese five spice head on shrimp with chili sauce, roast duck and cashew chicken. Feast on the all-you-can-eat selections for $17.99 from February 11-14, and $24.99 on February 10 and February 15-17.

From February 16-18, the Eldorado is carrying on the ancient Chinese New Year tradition of the White Crane Lion Dance. Watch as the spectacular display begins on the mezzanine and winds down through the casino. Saturday performances begin at 5, 8 and 11 pm. Sunday dances will start at 4, 7 and 10 pm, followed by a final dance on Monday at 1 pm.

Silver Legacy Resort Casino

Celebrate the beginning of the new Chinese Lunar Calendar with the legendary ritual of the Lion Dance, performed by international award-winning members of Leung’s White Crane Dance Association. Catch the Lion Dance on Silver Legacy’s mezzanine level near the Mining Rig on:

And at Café Sedona, enjoy authentic dishes such as Hunan beef, stir fry rice cakes and Fat Choy.

Mt. Rose Ski Tahoe

Santa is coming to town… by the thousands

Reno Santa Pub Crawl

‘Tis the season to gather in downtown Reno with thousands of Santas, elves, candy canes and Rudolphs for the 2012 Santa Pub Crawl! Dawn your Santa suit, ugly sweater, or any other Christmas costume and join the wassailing masses on December 15, beginning at 7:30 p.m. You’ll have a merry time caroling through the streets while enjoying drink specials at a slew of bars with the purchase of a $5 commemorative cup. Pick up your cups early at participating locations, or purchase it the night of the crawl at participating bars.

Before you hit the crawl, check out these additional spirited events:

Bowling with the Elves – December 14

If you’re arriving in Reno on the Friday before the Crawl, make your way to the National Bowling Stadium for the first ever Bowling with Elves. Santa’s little helpers (and apparently little bowlers) are teaming up with Toys for Tots, so bring a new, unwrapped toy for donation and receive a discount on your entry fee.

The Great Santa Dash – December 15

Before taking advantage of the jolly drink specials at the crawl, burn a few extra calories at The Great Santa Dash 5k run/walk at Winfield Park. Runners of all levels are welcome and holiday attire is strongly encouraged. So slip into your Santa suit a little early and join the fun.  The run kicks off at 10:00 a.m., rain, snow or shine!

Event fees: $32 Adults, $22 Youth (17 and younger)

Santa Ski Crawl – December 15

Forget the one-horse open slay. Grab your skis or board and dash through the snow in style at Mt Rose Ski Tahoe. Anyone dressed up as Jolly St. Nick or in similar festive garb will receive a $39 lift ticket on the day of the crawl (just wearing a Santa hat will not qualify). Be sure to gather on the stairs of the Main Lodge at 11:00 am for the group photo shoot, followed by a massive Santa group ski from the top of the KC Bowl at 11:30 am.
