Only Three Concerts Left in the Lake Tahoe Music Festival!

Lake Tahoe Music FestivalCrisp mountain air, crystal blue waters, the laughter of friends and family and a concert under the stars – that’s the Lake Tahoe Music Festival. It’s a summer music destination and you truly have to be here to feel it. Combining Broadway and classical, classic rock, jazz, big band swing and even a little country, the festival’s six-concert summer series attracts more than 12,000 attendees annually to scenic venues throughout North Lake Tahoe and Truckee, California with tickets starting from $25.

In its 28th season, the Lake Tahoe Music Festival brings another spectacular lineup through August 7. In the remaining three concerts, enjoy the company and musical talents of Natalie Cole, Michael McDonald and Wynonna, the festival’s first foray into country music.

On Saturday July 31st, spend a night with Wynonna at Northstar-at-Tahoe – marking the first time in the festival’s history it has taken place at Northstar. In addition to being once named “Top Female Vocalist of the Year” by the Academy of Country Music, Wynonna has also been referred as “the greatest country singer since Patsy Cline” by Rolling Stone Magazine.

“Adding a country star to our concert series is a first for us but we wanted to do it right and Wynonna fits the bill perfectly,” Lisa Krueger, chief executive officer of the Lake Tahoe Music Festival, said. “In the past five years we’ve booked our concert lineup based on feedback from attendees and in our last annual survey a majority of respondents asked for country music and we listened. Wynonna’s a talented and industry-recognized sensation who goes beyond country, offering a diverse musical range that we’re certain our attendees will embrace.”

Ever since her record-breaking, quintuple platinum debut solo CD, 1992’s “Wynonna,” which reached No. 1 on the country chart and loomed in the top five of Billboard’s “Top Albums” chart, the singer has remained  a recognizable, yet unpredictable icon. Wynonna’s latest album, “Sing: Chapter 1” pays homage to country, rock, blues and soul-baring standards originated by legendary artists that have formed the unique soundtrack to her own life.

On Thursday August 5th, spend the evening with 9-time Grammy Award winner, Natalie Cole. Cole’s performance in Tahoe is just a mere five days after a show in Istanbul, Turkey. Daughter of crooner Nat King Cole and former Duke Ellington Orchestra singer Maria Cole, Natalie Cole began performing at age 11. Her slew of hit songs includes “Pink Cadillac”, which was covered by Bruce Springsteen and made into a movie.

The Lake Tahoe Music Festival will wrap up the festivities with Michael McDonald on Saturday August 7th. Described as a “blue-eyed soul” singer, McDonald has a distinctive husky baritone voice. He is known for his work as a member of the Doobie Brothers and Steely Dan.

Festival gates open at 5 p.m. and performances begin at 7 p.m.  The casual festival atmosphere is enhanced with gourmet food and wine for sale, and picnics are welcome.

The festival’s summer concert series supports an Educational Outreach Program (EOP) which introduces new audiences to classical music through education, exposure and programming for youth in the Truckee and North Lake Tahoe communities and nationally through the new Orchestra Academy. Through its mentorship programs and other music education opportunities, the EOP aids young musical artists and emerging ensembles, offering training, guidance and concert presentation.

Founded in 1982 by Edgar Braun, conductor of the San Francisco Chamber Orchestra, the Lake Tahoe Music Festival is a summer music destination presenting an annual concert series at scenic venues throughout North Lake Tahoe and Truckee. The Lake Tahoe Music Festival is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that presents quality, diverse musical experiences and creates educational and performance opportunities for aspiring young musicians including the new Orchestra Academy. Funds for the Festival are raised through individual donations, corporate sponsorships and grants.
