Science is Always in Style… It’s Fashion Month at The Discovery!

Visitors offered the opportunity to explore the science behind the fashion industry

Beginning Saturday, Sept. 7, and continuing through Saturday, Oct. 5, 2013, the Terry Lee Wells Nevada Discovery Museum (The Discovery), sponsored by The Summit, celebrates “Fashion Month” with a variety of displays and hands-on classes exploring the art and science behind the fashion industry. Fashion Month begins with a kick-off party at The Summit  Saturday, Sept. 7 from 1 to 3 p.m.

The Discovery-Building FrontThe Discovery’s Fashion Month celebration includes hands-on classes and activities that range from bracelets made from the latest fingernail painting techniques to handbags and headbands created using recycled T-shirts. Fashion Month culminates with a Fashion Show & Party on Saturday, Oct. 5 from 6 to 9 p.m. at The Discovery.

Another element of Fashion Month are two design challenges. Participants can choose to design a stylish and functional backpack or a mind-blowing fashion statement using solely reclaimed or upcycled materials. Design challenge entries will be showcased at the Fashion Show & Party alongside unique fashions from local merchants. Details for both design challenges are available on The Discovery’s website at www.nvdm.org.

The Discovery is located at 490 S. Center Street in downtown Reno. Events at The Summit will be held in the Personal Shopper Lounge between Yankee Candle and My Wedding Library at 13925 South Virginia Street.
