Competition at the Italian Festival isn’t all about Bocce Ball, it’s also about who makes the best pasta sauce.  A crowd favorite year after year continues to be the Great Italian Festival Sauce Cook-off.  Italian families from across the west coast bring their “secret recipes” to life right on the street for guests to taste.  Pasta tasting plates will be sold for $2 at the Spaghetti Booth on the corner of Fourth and Virginia Streets from starting at 1 p.m. daily.  Don’t wait, they go fast!

New to the 30th Annual Italian Festival is the fastest product of Italy; the Ferrari Club of America will have dozens of Ferraris lining the Plaza on the south side of the Eldorado for the weekend.  Other newcomers are on the entertainment lineup, including Tammurriatarock!, a jam-band from Italy that mixes Italian world music with a reggae and Latin flare and Nick D’Egidio, famous Frank Sinatra impersonator.  Returning Italian Festival favorites include Moreno Fruzzetti and 2010 Festival sensation Mitch Franco.

No Italian Festival would be complete without plenty of homemade Italian food!  The Eldorado’s Famous Italian Dinner Buffet will be served in the Eldorado Convention Center at 4 p.m. on Saturday and in The Buffet on Saturday and Sunday.  Enjoy a special array of Italian dishes will be served, including Veal Tortelloni, Ricotta and Spinach Canneloni, Cioppino, Steamed Clams and Linguini, Turkey Scallopine with Marsala and Mushrooms, Eggplant Parmesan and an assortment of homemade Italian Salads and desserts, including our famous gelato and tiramisu!2387938334_96f586b98a_o

The Motorcycle Stunt Shows are featuring the nation’s biggest show-offs.

  • High flying LivFast Freestyle Motocross Aerial Stunt Shows will perform at the Street Vibrations Sparks venue September 22 – 24 with three shows daily.

Team members use mathematical calculations to determine the length and the height of their jumps at each location (even professional bikers use physics after high school).

Typically the riders and their motorcycles fly 70 feet through the air, 40-50 feet off the ground, landing on what appears to be a postage stamp. If that’s not electrifying enough, during jumps, team members hang onto motorcycle handlebars, seats and frames, and frequently perform mid-air flips.

  • Joining LivFast in Sparks will be JBX Freestyle Motorcycle Stunt Team based out of Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin.  Known for their “sick tricks” this impressive sport bike stunt team will have jaws-dropping in the crowd. JBX will perform September 22 – 24 at the Sparks Victorian Square site.
  • John Stotts Globe of Death from Las Vegas will perform at break-neck speed inside a steel ball September 22 – 25 in downtown Reno with several shows daily.

“It takes control, speed, balance and timing along with great peripheral vision to avoid mistakes,” Stotts says.  “The fun part is stopping.”

The Truckee River is Among the Top Sportsman Summer Destinations!

Fly FishingSportsman Channel has announced its Top Sportsman Summer Destinations and lo and behold, the Truckee River is on the list! Hosts of Sportsman Channel spend their days hunting, fishing and shooting throughout North America. That’s their job! So they should know a quality, living body of water when they see one. With summer now officially upon us, Sportsman Channel surveyed its talent, as well as its newly appointed CEO, to create the Top “Sportsman” Summer Destinations List.

The Truckee River came in 4th place! Here’s what Chad Belding had to say about our river:

Chad Belding of The Fowl Life: “My favorite summer destination is the Truckee River between Lake Tahoe and Reno in the beautiful eastern Sierra Nevada mountains. The river provides some excellent fishing during the summer months and the guides at the Reno Fly Shop are experts on the local water. They know the hatches, the timetables, the riverbeds, and food beds. Bottom line, they know how to get you on the fish. This in addition to these guided trips, being very affordable is what keeps me coming back to this area year after year. I love to either navigate the river on a float trip or by cruising the shorelines in search of some new honey holes. My favorite locations to fly fish on the Truckee River are literally minutes from Downtown Reno Nevada and Lake Tahoe. There is a ton to do after I get off of the river with great food, summertime activities, concerts, sporting events, and of course the mountains. I suggest staying at the El Dorado Hotel Casino in Reno. The Eldorado is a locally owned Hotel-Casino that offers nothing but first class accommodations.” Fishing with Reno Fly Shop Guides – El Dorado Hotel Casino in Reno: and

You said it best, brother!
