CANFEST bike drive

A chance to celebrate two things we all love and pair perfectly: Beer and Bikes

canfestCANFEST, the world’s largest canned beer festival, is partnering with the Reno Bike Project for the annual CANFEST Bike Drive. Participants in the drive have the opportunity to donate bicycles to receive complimentary entry to the beer festival. With more than 250 bikes collected throughout previous years, the annual CANFEST Bike Drive presents beer lovers with a chance to have fun doing what they love, all while simultaneously supporting a great cause.

The CANFEST Bike Drive rewards every bike donated to the Reno Bicycle Project with a free ticket to CANFEST on August 23, 2014. Presented by Joseph James Brewing Company, CANFEST is an unlimited tasting festival of beers poured exclusively from cans. Attendees will have the chance to sample 100-120 different brews throughout the evening from breweries all around the world. The festival takes place at Reno’s Peppermill Resort Hotel at 6pm.

The Reno Bike Project is a non-profit community bicycle shop and advocacy group committed to creating a nationally recognized, cycling-friendly community through advocacy and education in the Truckeee Meadows. Every bike donated to the Reno Bicycle Project is recycled or repurposed and put back on the road, making cycling more accessible to the public through recirculation of bikes into the community at affordable prices.

“CANFEST Bike Drive is a great opportunity for the community to give back and have fun as a result,” said Reno Bike Project Executive Director Noah Silverman. “We get to use the donated bikes to help kids, veterans and anyone else that needs or wants to get around on two wheels.”

To participate in the CANFEST Bike Drive, drop off new or used bicycles to The Reno Bike Project at 541 E 4th St to receive your free CANFEST ticket. Call 775-323-4488 or visit for shop hours and directions. The drive is active until August 22. Donators need to be of legal drinking age and must request the ticket upon donation to qualify.

Spring Break Brewery Tour

Remember how much fun it was to wake up on Easter morning, grab your basket and hunt for brightly colored eggs your parents meticulously hid around the yard? Well it’s time to relive that excitement in a more adult manner- with beer! While enjoying your spring break in Reno Tahoe USA, hunt down each of these breweries and discover all the frothy flavors the region has to offer.

Silver Peak

With three locations throughout Reno, each with its own delicious menu and distinctive atmosphere, Silver Peak offers a wide variety of microbrews ranging from the light XXX Blonde to the dark-as-chocolate Peavine Porter. The outstanding flavor doesn’t end with the beer though. Be sure to check out their menu, including their famous salmon fish and chips.

Great Basin Brewing Co.

Recently dubbed the “Best Brewery” on Metromix Reno’s Best Of 2013 list, Great Basin is a staple in the local brewery scene. With a flight of brew master specials and four flagship beers always on tap, including the multiple award-winning Icky IPA (named after our state fossil, the Ichthyosaurs), you’ll find a brew that’s perfect for you at any of the three locations.

The Brewer’s Cabinet

Fresh, exciting and unique, The Brewer’s Cabinet is a nano-brewpub crafting one-of-a-kind beers you won’t find anywhere else. Their small batch brewing system gives their brewers the freedom to create the beers they want without the pressure of following current trends or popular fads. And to complement their in-house infusions, you’ll also find specialty guest drafts and bottles, as well as a rich menu that pairs perfectly with their pints.

Brasserie St. James

The Brasserie stands behind the notion of making beers for all palates, and they definitely meet this standard by offering a vast selection of perfectly crafted brews with high quality ingredients. Located in the historic Crystal Springs building, the rooftop patio provides a perfect setting to enjoy top quality beer in the warm spring sun.

The Brew Brothers

The Brew Brothers is where great beer and exciting nightlife collide. Named “Best Brewpub in America” by Nightclub & Bar Magazine, The Brew Brothers offers eight custom microbrews, an inciting menu and award-winning live entertainment.

Silver Peak to open new pizzeria near Reno Aces baseball stadium

300 east 2nd stThe owners of Silver Peak Restaurant and Brewery will open a new restaurant in June 2010 in downtown Reno at 300 E. Second St., adjacent to the Reno Aces baseball stadium. The new restaurant will include a restaurant specializing in pizza made famous at Silver Peak’s original location, a full-service bar and restricted gaming. The owners have not yet named the new restaurant given its primary focus on pizza, but diners can expect a “Silver Peak-esque” twist to its identity.

“The construction of Aces Ballpark creates an opportunity for us to again participate in the revitalization of our downtown corridor,” said Silverman. “We’re excited to be part of the process, and look forward to seeing lots of locals and tourists enjoying the Freight House District area.”

Owners Schmidt and Silverman opened the first Silver Peak Restaurant and Brewery location on Wonder Street in Reno in 1999 and a second location in downtown Reno in 2004. Silver Peak is known throughout northern Nevada for its unique and original selection of food and beers brewed at its Wonder Street location.

The owners have no plans to make any changes to the original Wonder Street location, but are evaluating their total presence and priorities in the downtown Reno area.

300 E. Second is a 15-story tower and is located in downtown Reno, centrally located immediately across E. Second Street from the Reno Aces baseball stadium and within walking distance of City Hall, the County Courthouse and the Federal Court Building, Park Center Tower features panoramic views of the surrounding Sierra Nevada Mountains, Truckee Meadows and downtown Reno. The facility also offers direct access to Interstate-80, the Amtrak station and all major bus lines.
