We use this blog to brag about – and promote – our local Lake Tahoe Basin ski resorts, but few readers may know about the Sky Tavern Junior Ski Program, which kickstarts a lifelong passion for skiing for so many of our local residents.
Sky Tavern is a one-lift hill located above Reno and below Mt. Rose Ski Tahoe along the Mt. Rose Highway. There, for a nominal fee, kids learn to ski and board with their peers and make friends while their parents volunteer. My wife, now in her 30s, started skiing there back in the day … practically before she knew her ABCs.
This Saturday, Nov. 8, a fundraiser will be held at the Billinghurst Middle School Gym in Reno for the Junior Ski Program, with a presentation of Matchstick Production’s CLAIM, the Greatest Ski Movie Ever. Doors open at 7 p.m. with raffles and freebies. The big highlight for many will be watching the Moment Freestyle Team riding the mobile terrain park.
Admission is $8 plus a non-perishable food item for the Food Bank of Northern Nevada. Keep skiing and boarding strong in Reno-Tahoe and come out and support this great event.
