Celebrate the Lunar New Year in Reno Tahoe

The 2014 Chinese New Year is upon us, marking the time for transition from the Year of the Snake to the Year of the Horse. The horse is a symbol of travel and victory. So start the year on the right hoof, and giddy on up to Reno Tahoe to celebrate the Chinese New Year.

Eldorado Reno

January 31-February 6, and Feb 15-17

The Eldorado Hotel Casino is busy preparing to make dozens of authentic Chinese specialty dishes to help ring in the Chinese New Year. Look for traditional Chinese specialties in The Buffet from January 31-February 6 and the magnificent White Crane Lion Dances February 15-17 in honor of the Year of the Horse.

According to the Chinese lunar calendar, the new year begins on January 31 and marks the transition from the Year of the Snake to the Year of the Horse. While the Year of the Snake was said to be marked by prosperity, gracious morality and great wisdom, the Year of the Horse is considered a fortunate year that brings luck and good things.

To usher in the Year of the Horse, The Buffet will serve dozens of ever changing appetizers, side dishes and entrees plus Chinese crispy roast pig every night. Some of the dishes planned include clams with black bean sauce, Thai hot and sour head-on shrimp, roast duck, cashew chicken, steamed mussels with ginger sauce, wok braised crab, Peking pork chop, Mongolian beef and more.

Each buffet guest will receive Lei See, a Chinese tradition of lucky money. Friday, January 31 and Saturday February 1 guests can enjoy the Chinese New Year buffet for $24.99 per adult and $12.99 per child 10 and under. Eldorado Gold Card members and above dine for only $19.99. Sunday, February 2 through Thursday, February 6 adults dine for only $18.99, kids under 10 for just $8.99 and Eldorado Gold Club members and above for just $13.99.

The Chinese Lion Dance has been an integral element of Chinese culture for over a thousand years and a beloved part of the New Year festivities. February 15-17, the White Crane Lion Dancers will begin on the mezzanine and wind their way through the casino for all to see. Saturday performances will begin at 2, 5, 8 and 11 p.m. Sunday dances will be seen at 1, 4, 7 and 10 p.m. with Monday dances at 1 p.m.

A Chinese concert starring Leo Ku will be held on February 16 at the Downtown Reno Ballroom at 8 p.m.

Honor the Year of the Horse and enjoy Leo Ku in concert, the brilliant White Crane Lion Dances and authentic Chinese dishes prepared by the Eldorado’s expert chefs.

Silver Legacy

February 7-17

Just as 2014 gets into full swing on the American calendars another celebration of the New Year begins.  According to the Chinese Lunar Calendar the New Year starts on February 7th and Silver Legacy Resort Casino is here to celebrate with food, concerts and fun!

Chinese New Year 2014 marks the Year of the Horse and Silver Legacy invites everyone to take part in the celebration!  A special Chinese Concert featuring Leo Ku will be held on Sunday, February 16th in the Reno Ballroom at 8 p.m.

2014 Lion Dance Performance Schedule:

Saturday, February 15–1, 4, 7 and 10 p.m.

Sunday, February 16– 12 p.m., 3, 6 and 9 p.m.

Monday, February 17 –12 p.m.

The Lion Dance will be performed on Silver Legacy’s mezzanine level near the Mining Rig several times during the traditional 15 day Chinese New Year celebration.

From Friday, February 7th through Monday, February 17th, enjoy special Chinese delicacies at Café Central and Flavors! the Buffet.  Café Central will feature authentic dishes like Hunan Beef, Stir Fry Rice Cakes, Fat Choy, Prosperous Fish and more.

In Flavors, sample everything from hot and sour Soup and three flavors salad to main dishes like roast prime rib of beef, Chinese broccoli in oyster sauce, Peking pork loin, Hoison BBQ pork spareribs, Char Sui Bao, green mussels in oyster sauce, Char Siu Bao, red Thai curry chicken, baby Bok Choy with ginger sauce and more! Chinese entrees are served nightly in addition to our regular buffet menu items for $24.99 for adults and kids 6 to 12 eat for $12.99, Friday, Saturday and Sunday and for $17.49 for adults and $7.49 for kids, Monday through Thursday.
