SUPERHEROES AND VILLANS WILL SAVE THE WORLD, ONE DRINK AT A TIME

The only thing Superheroes, Super-zeros and Villains can agree on: a giant pub crawl. On July 16, identities will be masked, evil will pause and good times will prevail.

We know you have to get to making your unarguably awesome costumes, so we’ll keep the details short:

$2 and $3 drink specials

17 participating bars

Cash and other prizes! (How often are you paid to drink with your friends?)

Cost: $5 gets you a cup and a map

Upgraded VIP Cup: Only $40 buys you admission and one $5 drink at each of the 17 stops. FYI: that’s $85 worth of booze!

Be Safe, don’t drive. The Silver Legacy Resort Casino has discounted hotel rooms exclusively for Crawlers. Enter code SUPER11.

Start time: 8pm

End time: You make the call. You’re in Reno.

Start Location: Biggest Little City Club at 188 California Avenue

The Superhero Crawl’s mission is to save the World, one drink at a time. So, just in case you needed one more reason to party, a portion of the proceeds is donated to support the Washoe County School District.

Check out the costumes from last year and let your imagination decide your pseudo-character for the night.

Latest Technology Offers Unique Access to Eldorado Hotel Casino

Eldorado App

Imagine having the power to book a hotel stay, make dinner reservations, take a virtual tour of your room, find the best place to park and the best slot machines to play all in the palm of your hand.  Now anyone with an Apple iPhone, iPad or iTouch has that capability, thanks to a new Application from the Eldorado Hotel Casino.

The Eldorado launched the new App this morning, which can be downloaded for free in the Apple App Store.  iPhone users will be impressed by the usability, functionality and interactivity of the Downtown Reno Hotel Casino’s new tech feature.  Built and developed in partnership with a San Francisco based technology company, this iPhone App is the first of its kind to hit the Reno business scene.

“This App goes leaps and bounds beyond what other Reno companies are doing with multimedia technology,“ says Chad Hallert, Director of Internet Marketing and E-Commerce at the Eldorado.  “Say you’re standing in front of The Brew Brothers restaurant.  Your iPhone will use GPS to detect your location and our App will show you the current specials we’re running inside.”  Even without internet access, the Eldorado iPhone App will still be more than 80% functional in “offline” mode.

Business guests will find the Eldorado iPhone App especially user-friendly.  Corporations, businesses and groups can access their own private meeting section to view group itineraries, speaker presentations, conference catering menus and more directly through a login page within the Eldorado App.

Other features include restaurant menus and event calendars with the option to make reservations or purchase tickets to concerts and shows at your fingertips.   Club Eldorado players can even look up their comps and points instantly without visiting a kiosk.  Watch for the “Slot Finder” coming in November, which will tell guests where their favorite games are located on the casino floor.  An Android version of the Eldorado App is already in the works and is set to launch in early December.

So order room service in the elevator on the way to your room and pinpoint exactly where you parked with the new Eldorado iPhone Application, which is now available for free at the Apple App Store.  A special offer will be given to the first 1,000 people to download.  For more information check out our iPhone App information in the Apple Store, on Facebook, Twitter and YouTube or call 775-786-5700.

Comedian Dave Attell Set For Laughs at the Nugget: No Pressure, Dave.

Attell PosterNamed one of the “25 Funniest People in America” by Entertainment Weekly Magazine, Attell’s caustic wit, rapid-fire delivery and “very adult” choice of material have earned him the reputation as a “comic’s comic.” But if you ask Attell, he’d say, “I’m just trying to get some laughs and sell some drinks.”

Catch funnyman Dave Attell, Saturday, June 12, in the intimate Celebrity Showroom at John Ascuaga’s Nugget.

Born in Queens and raised on Long Island, Attell got into stand-up comedy in the late eighties after graduating from New York University with a degree in Film and Television. Attell used this prestigious degree to land an amazing job in the food service industry – as a waiter. At night he would hit the “open mic” circuit in Manhattan. After many years, Attell worked his way up through the club scene onto the road, touring across America as a national headliner and developing a huge following among fans and the industry alike.

In 2001, Attell used this love of booze and laughter to create and host the hit series, “Insomniac with Dave Attell” for Comedy Central. A travelogue show in which Attell goes from city to city looking for late-night fun, The New York Times called the show, “a doubly rare beast, a comedy without rancor and a travel show about the virtues of the American underdog.” To Attell, the Insomniac show is more of a cross between “Girls Gone Wild” and “Cops”.

After four seasons of “Insomniac,” Attell taped several hour-long “Insomniac” specials overseas in Japan, Germany, England and Brazil. Once back in the states, he headed out on a thirty-five city theatre tour ending in Vegas, where he hosted a two-hour special for Comedy Central featuring Sean Rouse, Greg Geraldo and Dane Cook.

Attell has made numerous appearances on “The Late Show with David Letterman,” “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno,” “Late Night with Conan O’Brien,” “The Howard Stern Show,” “Later with Carson Daly” and “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart”. He also appeared in Chris Rock’s cult film “Pootie Tang”. Other television credits include FOX’s “Arrested Development,” NBC’s “Ed,” HBO, Comedy Central’s “Tough Crowd with Colin Quinn” and his own half-hour stand-up special “Comedy Central Presents Dave Attell”.

Dave Attell plays one night only, Saturday, June 12, in the Celebrity Showroom at 8 p.m. Tickets are $40, and are available by calling (800) 648-1177 or (775) 356-3300 or by visiting www.janugget.com.

Raise Your Own Chickens and Bees and Drink Some Green Beer!

Earth Day RenoSure, you’re sopped in on Earth Day 2010, but it is after all HER day and Mother Earth can do as she pleases. Plus, you can let your sprinklers take a break and let her do all of the work.

People across the Reno Tahoe area are getting creative on ways to give back to the planet on the 40th anniversary of Earth Day celebrations. Below you’ll find a list of events in Reno Tahoe starting tonight and lasting through your weekend. (We’re expecting some sunshine by Friday!)

Tonight, April 22, take your little ones on a kid-friendly sunset stroll guided by Galena naturalists from the Great Basin Institute. The evening walk through the forest at Galena Creek Regional Park is from 7:15 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. Enter the park through the north entrance and meet near the restrooms. The stroll is subject to weather conditions, so please call (775) 674-5475, ext. 4, on the day of the program to confirm and RSVP. All ages are welcome and the suggested donation is $2 per person. Galena Creek Regional Park is at 18350 Mt. Rose Highway.

The Siena in downtown Reno is saluting Earth Day on Thursday, April 22 with 99-cent green beer, mixers, live music, a special fashion show and unique Earth Day Spin to Win which could net players $500. The Siena will match every dollar won in free play with the purchase of Emission Reduction Credits.  The fashion show kicks off at 7 p.m. in the Loft, featuring styles from Night Kind Burner Gear, Prism Magic’s Lucious Ladies, Vicki Lowell McGuiness, Junkee Recycled Clothing, Kalifornia Jean Bar, Veronica Coleman and others.  A live D.J. will spin the tunes and drink specials. Saturday, April 24 check out the Bourgeouis Gypsies as they perform at the Alpine Meadows Spring Music Series. Straight from Sierraville, the Bourgeouis Gypsies have wandered across the country sharing their “hillbilly” mix of country, blues, swamp ballads, and homespun hillbilly heartbreaks. This five-member band shows exactly how much heart they have through the depth of their music. For more information visit their Web site.

Learn how to raise your own poultry and other animals, including ducks, rabbit s and bees, in the garden on Saturday, April 24 at the River School in Reno. Visit their Web site for more information.
